I made a pair of night stands for the master bedroom a couple months ago and completed them just before my table saw decided to quit on me. I milled the legs out of 8/4 solid oak cut from a 9.5" wide board that was 10ft in length. Quite a hefty piece of stick to handle and cut.
I used my tapering jig to put a taper on two sides of each leg and cleaned them up on my jointer. The whole unit is made out of solid oak except for the drawer sides. All the boards were run through my thickness planer and sanded smooth.
The tops of each table consists of 3 oak boards joined together using biscuits and glue and milled to a finished size of 20.5" x 35.5". Each table stands 29" tall and fills in the space on both sides of my queen size bed quite nicely.
The legs and aprons were joined using pocket screws and wood glue for a very strong joint and fit. Corner blocking (as seen in the second photo) was used to ensure squareness and to allow for a way to attach the solid oak tops.
For the finish I used a cherry stain and topped off with 3 coats of polyurethane.
