New NOS Tubes

had no idea northern electric was rebranding old12AD7. most ive seen are leftover TJ full music.
japans's NEC (nippon electric company) made the grey plates; sylvania made the black plates. ive never used them, as they higher heater current than 12AX7.
how would they go against 6922 or ECC88? do you mean youd put them up against a tele ecc83/12AX7?
No no it is just a point I said. These 12AD7 really surprised me!! In fact funny you should mention pinouts. The other day I did the tubers unthinkable was not paying attention to what I was doing and stuck a 12BY7 in 12AX7 socket. Need less to say things did not go well. It is in the repair shop now no matter I have 5 other amps. However it thought me to pay attention to what the hell I am doing. I know it is not really comparing apples to apples.. but I have thos Tele tubes and these just surprised me of how they performed.
Yes I would and the others. I have them all. Also 5 tube amps. And as I was saying to the other guy one went to the repair shop because I was not paying attention to what the hell I was doing and stuck a 12by7 into a 12ax7 socket that does not work. . I was just making a point. I looked these 12AD7 up and from what I found out they are a step above the 12AX7 tube Now you can argue well what tube . Well I do know they do very well up against Tele pcc88s and ecc88s. Also they may not be apples to apples. However I have 2 of these and not had a problem at all in my amps. They sound great at least in the stuff I got I know we all are different. I have a ton of tubes. A lot of tubes one cannot get anymore. However I am no expert by any means I just let my ears tell me. These are super super quiet and they just fill the room. I have 18 speakers in my room. Again just me but it just seems they take my music to another level. As far as heater current I run these all the time and have never had a problem but that is just me. Northern Electric are now offering these tubes again I think. Mine are NOS. But do not stick a 12by7 into a 12ax7 socket.. DUH!!! You will regret it.
man, aint that somethin? ive either seen em for sale or in reel to feel and tube mic preamps.
well, as i informed you, 2 manufacturers made 12AD7, sylvania (black) and NED (grey).
which ones u got? can u post some pics?

Here is where I found out about them on this forum. Also do a search on EBAY and just a web search there is stuff that will come up that you can read about them.
I've just got on Ebay a NOS NEC 12AD7 tube and at a good price, 30 $ includding shipping to Spain.
For those of who don't know, a 12AD7 tubes is something like a 12AX7 "on steroids" tube. I first got toknow about them some months ago by a forum member here. He told me that 12AD7 tubes are the ones with less hum, less noise and most linearity. They are very rare and were mostly used on high end professional analogue tape recorders.
I should receive it in around two weeks and I'll be using it on my Phono preamp, an EAR 834 "clone", either as a V1 tubes which does around 75/80 % of the amp for both channels, or as a V2 which does RIAA de-eq and the 25/20 % of remaining amp for both channels. I'll test it where it works better, it's gonna be fun.
For the two remaining tubes I'll be using a NOS NEC 12AX7 with long and narrow plates from 1964 and a NOS NEC 12AU7 from the 1960's as a V3 working as a "buffer tube" on a cathode follower configuration. The NEC 12AX7 I already have is dead silent, very very quiet, I've tested it with the aforementioned NEC 12AU7 and a RCA 12AX7A changing the RCA 12AX7A and the NEC 12AX7 between V1 and V2 positions getting great results keeping in mind that none of the three tubes are broken in, just tested and used for 3 hours top and then put into storage.
Does anybody here has any experience with a 12AD7 tube?
