I had a pair of kappa 7's several years ago..
and for the music i listen to (metallica, Soundgarden etc)
sounded fat and muddy.. too much sloppy bass, and rawkus mids and highs.
Sold them to a Japanese guy, he brought one of his Cd's (instumental Japanese Artist)
to test them, and they sounded Absolutely FANTASTIC!
Bottom Line is they did not suite my metal and grunge... but excellent for his music.
Now days i have kappa 9's and they are Friggin' Great! for metal, Grunge, Rock and Classical

Bill Watkins has stated on the Yahoo Infinity group (where he was a member, not sure if he still is as I don't get on there that much these days) that he was involved in the design of the 12" woofers used in the Kappas (which AFAIK are the same woofers used in the IRS V).
