Got unbelievably lucky while scrolling through Facebook marketplace the other day. I'm currently collecting the entirety of the Pioneer communication series, and I keep finding new components I never new existed. Next on my list was an RG-9 and come to find out some guy is selling one only half an hour away and it looks brand new. Looking through his profile he's also got a DT-5 which I never even knew was part of the communication series. After a fair amount of hassle I finally convinced the guy to meet and sure enough, these components are pretty much brand new in box. Apparently a distant relative spent time in Japan and purchased some audio components that they never got around to using. As far as I can tell the seller did exactly what they told me, opened the box, took photos, put it back. Absolutely incredible find!

The Communication series was nicely styled and look fantastic in a stack configuration. The units all had plastic front bulkheads which may deteriorate when stored in hot environments. Disassembly must be done gently as these units "snap" together with plastic tabs [that can"snap" off]. Most of the units can be found in fairly good shape but the cassette decks had myriad issues with mainly the tape transport/reversing function. When working properly the cassette decks are extremely good. The Auto BLE feature makes the recording phase very nice and accurately configured any tape you were using. Most decks will work fine in the "forward" motion of the tape. You can set the deck to only play in the forward play to use the deck. If you are going to want a fully functional reverse play you will have to work at it. The A9 integrated amp is the best component of this series. A word of waning about cleaning the faceplate. The black features/silkscreen of the faceplate is painted on and the use of solvents will damage/remove the paint. Mild detergent and possibly IPA only. Test any surface you want to clean. If you can put together a Communication Series Stack you will have a very unique setup.

I've already got a stack going and I'm super happy with it. Just posted a pic recently. Still looking for a decent tuner, a CT970, etc. just finishing up the stack. Thank you for the advice though!
