I've got a pair of the original Titans. They are quite well made, and damn hard to beat for the price they go for. Not many speakers in this price range have beefy cast baskets.
I can't tell which version yours are, but have you checked the surrounds? Mine needed a re-foam, but my Old Man has a newer pair (with the plastic back) and they're rubber.
Speaking of surround foams, the kid I bought my Titans off was using them without any! I went to audition 'a pair of sweet sounding speakers,' and you could imagine the horror when I notice him crank it up and ignore all the pops, scrapes clicks and other horrible sounds coming directly from the speakers I was there to buy.

But for $50 with a perfectly fine PS-1000 sub to match, I wasn't complaining.
I was really worried that the drivers were going to be shot, it was obvious that the surrounds had been gone for a LONG time. After getting home and inspecting them for damage, they looked fine. So I decided to order up the foams, and try to bring them back to life. 2 years later, they're still kickin ass.
That must be one hell of a driver to go through all that torture and still come back to life after a re-foam.
