New Respect for NAD Amplifiers and Receivers

I'm in the middle of resto-modding a PHASE LINEAR PL-400 Series One amplifier. Going full WOPL.

And I'm also building a new set of speakers - actually I already have the speakers finished (a pair of bookshelf(s)), but I am adding two 8 ohm subwoofers to these speakers - one each. The bookshelf speakers have a 6 inch woofer and a 1 inch soft dome tweeter. They are large ported bookshelf speakers. The subwoofers are going to have their own boxes - sealed. It's gonna be a 2.5 way system where the 6.5 inch woofers just roll off naturally around 40hz. The subwoofers have low-pass filters starting at 100hz, then the'll roll off naturally around 30hz.

This system will need A LOT of power mostly for the sealed subs, hence the PHASE LINEAR.

The only amplifier I have that'll power the subwoofer for testing purposes is a tiny little NAD 7125 stereo receiver rated a 50 watts per channel (I think). I'm using the left channel to power a subwoofer and the right channel to power a bookshelf speaker. I'm testing how well the sub blends in with the bookshelf speaker (nicely as it turns out).

I have a Pioneer SX-939 receiver. Couldn't turn the volume up to 1/3 before the amp protection circuit clicked on.

I have an Onkyo 100 watt per channel (supposedly) HT receiver. It worked for a while before the sub started tripping the overload circuit (getting too hot?).

Mad respect for NAD amps and receivers you'all. Little but powerful, and they sound amazing as well. Two Thumbs Up for NAD.

Of course the PHASE LINEAR will be even better....

I've got a NAD with the pe suffix (power envelope) that runs higher supply voltages. It's capable of tremendous peak power compared to it's continuous rms rating. Pretty decent but it developed a noise problem I haven't had time to track down. When I got it I remember the switches required a huge amount of TLC to get working again.
