New setup advice – 2240

I was hoping to drop in for some advice on a good vintage setup.

Current "beginner" setup for the last ~10 years:
Marantz 2000
Klipsch KG 2.2
Phillips 212 Electronic turn table

I have a lead on a Marantz 2240. I'm wondering where I should go from here? How can I mature my setup? Thoughts...
1. Tube pre-amp. Would one work with the 2240? If so, whats a good mid-level model to look for? Perhaps an old Knight?
2. Whats a good vintage speaker setup for this receiver? Klipsch Heresy? KLH?

Any and all help is appreciated! I'm starting to learn more and spread my wings into this world a bit. I mostly listen to jazz lps bebop and such, stereo not mono.

any pre amp would work with the 2240 but you dont say why you would need one the 2240 is good by itself, if you want to use a MC cartridge you would need a phono pre or step up transformer though.
you dont say how much you want to spend on speakers so Klipsch KG4's would be good with a 2240 and wouldnt break the bank
 
The 2240 is a great receiver. Spend your $ on speakers and just use the 2240 as-is. Heresy is a good speaker but consider a Forte instead. It’s better IMO. Marantz also matches really well with JBL (another personal preference). See if you can find a reasonable pair of L100s or even L36 for a more affordable solution. I think you’ll be very happy.
 
ADS, Epi, Advent, AR, KLH, Yamaha, KEF, Dynaco, JBL and Klipsch as mentioned the list of speakers is long and subjective.

Vintage often need some help like surrounds or replacing capacitors. Something to keep in mind as you go deeper into the hobby. Very rewarding and fun though and you learn a lot.

The 2240 if priced right is a good unit that will continue to appreciate in value. Whats the story on it? All original, somewhat restored?
 
Marantz 2240 is a very underrated model. I have one that I was going to sell but decided to keep. IMO sounds like a lot more than 40 watts, especially after replacing transistors on the Phono board boosted the signal.
