So, just got some cooooool vintage paper cone drivers off you-know-where to try a couple new projects. ("course I need more speakers like a hole in the head, but I didn't have these yet
)
picture 1 & 2: MONSTEROUS oval RCA consoel drivers with whizzer cones. I had a single from an old consoel strip, but I really wanted to try a pair. I really like all the old RCA's I've heard, and these are pretty cool looking - hopefully they sound as good . . . notice the 6SN7 tube for scale - they're about 15 inches by 10 inches . . I figure equivalent cone area is about a 12 in woofer. Can't go wrong for $5.00
picture 3 thru 6: full set of german drivers froma Emud console - not sure of the exact make (maybe Siemens ?) but I couldn't pass them up either: 10 inch woofers with curvelinear cones & mesh dustcap; 4 X 6 oval midranges - also mesh dustcaps; 3 inch round cone tweeters, sealed back, BEEFY magnet for size; 3 inch electrostatic tweeters. Build qualtiy on these old German drivers is impressive; I can see why some of them go for silly money.
I've done the OB thing, so I thought I'd try an aperiodic enclosure for sh*ts & giggles . . . not sure if I'll use the whole 'array' in the new project, but it'll be fun either way. I believe the 4 X 6 ovals fired from the sides of the cabinet 'full range' and the other three faced forward . . . I had a similar vintage Emud console with a smaller, but similar arrangement
anyone else have experience with these old german drivers ?
