I wound up picking up a pair of Spica Angelus' yesterday. I was worried when one of the drivers wasn't original but i'll be damned if they don't sound amazing, and very balanced. huge soundstage. a lot of detail in the mids. I know it's been said before but they handle vocals and guitar extremely well.

I've noticed in looking around here and just on the net in general that there aren't a lot of pictures of these guys floating around so if anyone wants any specific shots. a certain detail, whatever? just let me know and i can take some more pics.

the only thing i'm hesitant to do right now is pull out the drivers.like i said one of them is aftermarket but it looks like it was either replaced professionally or very carefully by the original owner because the wool sheets surrounding the drivers is glued in place pretty well, so i'd rather not pull it off :)

woofer change

Static
both woofers have been replaced. The last shot looks like the audax that should be there but without the mod (Spica removed the phase plug and replaced it with a circle of felt) that Spica did to them. The other woofer looks to be a different type ( note the concentric lines around the dust cap and the not as reflective surface. If they sound the way you like that "so what" enjoy!! but I thought you would want to know.

They will most likely sound better with correct woofers as drivers are very sensitive about things like frequency response and that being correctly matched to the crossover, resonance points points being matched to the cabinet, and db/watt/metter output, ie the replacement woofer is likely either louder or softer than the original, effecting balance, soundstage, etc.

If they sound good to you great, but likely they can sound better.

i know they'd definitely sound better with a matched set of correct drivers. but for how hard it is to find replacement drivers for Spica's, they sound pretty damn great as is.

yeah Klama. they're in pretty nice condition. a few chips and scratches but all in all quite nice :)
