Funny (and slightly tragic) story. I purchased a DR 550 from ebay the day after this was posted. I dropped $55 plus shipping on it and, honestly, was rather excited to receive it. Fast forward to delivery day, and excitement turned to disappointment as soon as the courier handed the box to me. An ominous rattling sound from the too-big-a-box foretold doom. I opened my package to discover a few loose pieces of cardboard and a demolished vintage tt. Amongst the carnage: the dust cover- shattered, the counterweight- rolling around, still clinging to its portion of the snapped tonearm, and a missing foot which had apparently broken off and escaped through a hole in one of the bottom corners of the box. Is it a decent unit? I wish I could tell you. Thankfully, the seller issued a full refund, including shipping. I've contacted the seller twice since to return it, only to be met with radio silence. So I might yet experience the joys of owning this machine, if I can figure out which parts are compatible and hunt them down. Sounds like a fun... project *nyuck*. Thanks for reading.
