New to Audiokarma, looking for advice on repairing my Sansui 9090db

This is a great point...
Some people are not wired to learn this kind of stuff.

As a stubborn self-taught muppet that many times was told to ''leave stuff to pros'', I would say that it depends of 3 things.

./ Condition of the unit, if the unit is in very very bad shape, I would say leave it to someone with experience.
./ If the person have a tech oriented mindset, is patient and it is willing to learn, it can be done. (communication is key here)
./ People willing to teach

That said, those 9090db are very modular with nice access, but they can have some of those sansui documented ''peculiarities''.
Who knows, maybe we have a future Sansui luminary .

That's why I started... post some decent pictures to see what we got. Maybe something can be done... I'm not an expert by any mean, but I have done a couple of basket cases here and there. Maybe I can lend you a hand.
I uploaded some photos, they're on my profile page.

I can't see much maybe imgur or something like will help,
That said... those bridged fuses have to be addressed (F01 and F02 on F-2695). remove those wires and install proper fuses, they can be cheapos meanwhile you are working on the unit.

If you follow those fuses on the schematic you will se that they connect to F-2656 then to some inductors and then to the outputs.

Check the outputs transistors. (do you know how to test them?)
Check R25 and R26 on F2657.
Check F2656 for burned resistors.
A picture of F-2624 will be helpful, that is usually a problematic board due some fuse resistors used by Sansui. (check the sticky section)
Do you know how to build a dim bulb tester?

I actually Just built a dim bulb tester. What wattage of bulb should I use?
75W to 100W will be ok... is very important to remove the wire on the bridged fuses.

I forgot to tell you that check those big resistors on F-2656, they a big white ceramic resistors. if they measure open or give a big Ω reading they are shot

I haven't plugged it in since I found out about the bridged fuse holders, I just have to pick up some fuses now.
Good!

you still can test the outputs, the fuses are 7A 250V

BTW, these little things are very useful and inexpensive

I'm somewhat at a standstill at the moment because I just paid off a big medical bill. So I have very low funds as of right now.
I know the feeling. But still ask around to see if there is anyone near you anyways. Then you'll be all set when the time comes. Members here on AK can be very generous too..

I’m in Milwaukee if you ever get down this way.
There ya go @teddyfreddy Ben is a couple of hours away with a lakeside drive, but it sure beats taking a chance on the orangutans playing "drop kick" and destroying such a fine piece of audio equipment. And Ben won't "hack it up" either like some so-called "techs" would. :p
