New to group, pioneer hpm-100& pioneer sx-838 repair replace rebuild. Need guidance.

I'm new, so please have understanding and patience with my crash course in ak forums.

As a kid growing up, both of my parents were life long military. So I was always bouncing base to base. One of my fondest memories was the stereo my dad was always adding to and enjoyed his love of music and great sounding equipment.

During his deployments to places like Okinawa and kunsan afb in Korea he bought an amazing collection. Sx-1980, hpm-100's, s-1010, Yamaha ns-30t, cs-88a and other various pieces (collected over several years.)

I have recently inherited his stereo, and after sitting for 5 years unused in a falling apart trailer.... they certainly have their issues. Both hpm-100's have water damage to the bottoms of the cabinets, one woofer has the wire that runs from the terminal to the speaker cone is broke, the mid range reads no resistance or wide open? (Jack of many trades master of none... still learning) and one set of pots is repairable but in rough shape.
The Yamaha's are fine. Replaced one woofer only to discover that they are infact not sun bleached color but purple...

The sx-1980 I still have yet to locate but it needs repairs that I can only assume since I dont have it in hand is beyond my ability to repair... maybe...
So I got his last known to be used av reciever. His sx-838. With no volume but power on the speakers will make a faint clicking sound. And static with every button push, switch, and knob turn... needs cleaned is my guess.

I'm needing help with these issues, sorry it took so long to just spit it out. But how do I go about re soldering the terminal wire (the break is right at the cone itself.) How to I dis assemble the mid range to look for obvious malfunction or just replace? , and where can I find an empty set of cabinets? And is the 838 not enough amp as I dont have the click sound when using other amps.
Yes I have scored the depths of the internet and have gone places I can never speak of. Jk.

Buck, welcome to AK. Others will be along to give advice on the HPM's, but they may be a lost cause as described.
As for the 838, the click means everything is good. Buy some Deoxit and clean every possible control, and I have no doubt you'll be good to go, although it should be restored at some point.
The 1980, when found, will needs lots of work, as well as the SX-1010 you mention. Heat issues.

if the sx-838 relay clicks after about 20 seconds when power is applied, this is good. be sure to use known speakers or the protection circuit might kick in (relay doesn't click). clean the controls and enjoy the pioneer. I worked on my brothers and it is a nice receiver.

Just curious with the deoxit. Can that be used on the circuit boards? Its.... to its fullest definition.... its pretty dirty inside.

I'll be getting into cleaning it here soon I hope.
But running 4 Yamaha ns-30t's and well just one hpm-100 isn't to much speaker for the amp?

Buck, single click after 3 seconds or so is protection relay and perfectly normal operation on start up. Any clicks after that means its cycling in and out of protection - not good. No click on start up - not good, not coming out of protection.

Ok. Well. This is exactly what happens. I turn on the receiver and after a few seconds itll make a single click. Ready to play music. I always turn the volume off as I have 2 little monsters. With no volume or anything coming from TV or other source I very faintly hear white noise and a quick like click click click click. Very faint. It does play music on all channels and plug in ports. If I use a different amp (i.e. Yamaha rx-v365 not the 500 watt version) and the white noise is all but gone and the click does not exist.

Deoxit is used for cleaning and lubricating electro-mechanical components like switches, pots and connectors, it is way too expensive for cleaning circuit boards, and probably not very useful in that capacity.

lots of potentially noisy transistors in those and the the 2sa725;726 are the worst followed by 2sc1451 and 1312.those all gotta go and im sure it needs a recap.im reasonably sure there's an up-to-date rebuild list available. you might want to google "top ten worst transistors- audio karma" its a good read.my 9930 and 939 were victims of these culprits as well as my 1010. alcohol can be used to clean as well as some sort of spray and wipe there's been lots written here about various methods. i would use a distilled water to provide some sort of rinse as the junk does have to be REMOVED if a water based solution is used.ive even used lacquer thinner,but you gotta watch out and keep that stuff away from any styrol capacitors
