New to McIntosh, c37 preamp needing bulbs

Hello new McIntosh friends.

I just purchased a c37 preamp and a MC7200 amp. I am testing the c37 and getting used to the controls. So far, this pre is perfect for me
as it allows so many fine-tuning options with the EQ and variable loudness. But... no working bulbs. All of the red indicators work but the main panel lights are out.
What is involved with changing these? If I can get to them and change them, I am certainly capable of that. Any hints?

I have the c37 hooked up currently in my showroom system through a Citation 22 amp and it sounds incredible. I will be picking up the MC-7200 later today and both will end up in my main system at home. Can't wait.

Any help would be very welcome. Thanks in advance.

I cannot answer your question about replacing bulbs since I don't have that preamp and I cannot readily find a service manual online.

But I can suggest that since all the panel bulbs are out, you may want to consider that there is an issue with the circuit that provides power to those bulbs.

You might try to find a copy of the service manual (start with McIntosh) for help or you might be able to figure out how to replace them by just by carefully taking the preamp apart to see if you can get access.

If you don't have one, you can get a pdf of the owner's manual here: https://www.mcintoshlabs.com/legacy-products/preamplifiers/C37

Hopefully you'll get a better answer soon.

I'm getting the impression that the Lamps you're referring to are bi-pin types, and they I believe are soldered.
Yeah, go ahead, you can say it, SOB! LOL

I could be wrong about this but also thinking the Lamps that light all the Lettering are not LEDs. Such was not in widespread use in these older units. Yet the Lamps weren't like older types, such as Fuse Types, Festoon Types, or Bayonet Types (Which these types are much easier to change)

Like TSmith mentions, and I am also unsure as well, that there could possibly be a blown fuse for this specific light circuit on a board somewhere?

(An old joke, that my old Railroad buddy Augie used to say, "A queer electron went though the line and blew all the fuses!" LOL)

A voltmeter and knowing how to use it would likely tell the tale of the tape? And a correct service manual.
McIntosh had revisions to basically every unit they ever produced.

Didn't the C37 also come with 2 different width-type faceplates? (narrow-wide)

I would in fact pray it was just a fuse, just a simple plug and play part, and you're fixed.

I suggest calling McIntosh Parts and ordering bulbs, they likely can tell you what type of base they have. Also a good suggestion above to look into the schematic to see if there is a fuse, and while you'e on the phone with McIntosh parts order a service manual which they likely will email to you for free.

Hello

This type of lamp are 058-062 (7381)
The problem with these lamp like in many model , the glass bulb is covered by tungsten atom and make the bulb glass completely dark inside and no more light can be see coming out this lamp like if the lamp is dead
Replacement is the only way to cure this problem

These have to be soldered?
I truly can`t remember, as I did the preamps companion tuner and my 1986 purchased Mc. CD player one after another at the same time.
Though probably they were.
If the preamp`s service manual is in A/K`s digital documents, it might be informative.

Guess you have poor recall, Had an schizoid embellism, LOL.

Doubtful one will find a full blown SM for knicks, especially since the C37 may have 3 or 4 different revisions-updates.

Thank you everyone. I called McIntosh Labs, unfortunately the parts dept was closed but did talk to someone in tech dept. He did confirm that they are indeed the 058-062 incandescent pin type bulb, soldering is required. (3) Bulbs. I can't seem to find an adequate image but imagine that it may be beyond what I may be able to do cleanly. That depends on access etc. I will call back in the AM and see if they have a service manual. By the way, this preamplifier is a "C37W" version with the wide faceplate.

dgwojo is a member who has bulbs for McIntosh gear. He may or may not have a supply of the ones you need, but it can't hurt to send him a pm and ask.
