New to me - Denon DP-47F

Hi everybody,

I just got a killer deal on a whole system of fairly decent older gear. The turntable is a Denon DP-47F. Tried it out and it works perfectly.

The DP-47F is big & bulky and doesn’t pass the WAF. I’m not crazy about it’s looks either. I’m considering selling it and possibly getting a Technics SL-7; based on looks and what I’ve read.

I’m just getting back into hifi gear. I was never a big vinyl guy to begin with. I’d appreciate any thoughts you all might have.

Thanks

I got one (Denon) for free last spring, and wasn't impressed by the looks, either, but started reading about it on-line. Finally hooked it up last week, put my Shure M97xe with a Jico SAS on it, and wow......sounds pretty good, easy to use, and set-up. Mine also works well, except the 45 rpm light comes on when started sometimes. It was also made in 2000, so it's not as old as it could be......I think these started in the 80's. My Technics SL-J2 turntable with an AT 331LP cartridge was awesome, but it now thumps no matter what lube I use. It's the only P-mount that sounded good; it spoiled me, all the others I've tried sounded bad, including an SL-5. I would audition an SL-7 before buying, but I personally would avoid the entry and mid-level linear tracking turntables. My 2 cents.
