ESS Tempest Original First Version New to Me

Got these from fellow AK'r Opossumcrunch. Thanks Bob...Built like a proverbial Tank. Can't tell much as the grills are stapled in but you can see the drivers. 27" H x 15" W x 12" D Pleated Cloth 12" Woofers...Small Port on lower left under Woofer... 3 or 4 inch Dome tweeter.... 60 plus lbs. Solid...My knuckles hurt... These are the original ESS Tempest. Only Tempest on the Back Plate. No Heils Sound is pretty darn good and I really dig the looks. Any input appreciated. I may take the grills off and inspect for component identification if I get real industrious. Right now they sound good and all drivers function as they should. What do you guys think?

Good looking speakers. Can't wait to hear them.

Nice sounding speakers. They will truely be missed, along with the 2000X. :tears: {opossumcrunch}, a tasty rodent snack.

I saw a pair of those once in the market here. Was tempted, but I had (and still have!) too many speakers, and without AMTs they didn't quite turn on the "I MUST have it!" feeding-frenzy insanity. Still, I've been curious ever since to know how they sound (never got to hear them). You're lucky to be able to enjoy them at home; no doubt, given what the ESS people knew about speaker making, they sound pretty good. They certainly look good! Congratulations on the uncommon but interesting vintage acquisition! :thmbsp:
