That is the definition of bi-wiring. In some systems, it seems to smooth out the highs and mids a little, and can tighten up the bass. This is how I run mine, with 120wpc. The amp doesn't really see any more strain than if you used a single set of wires. But it's definitely an improvement over the crappy metal jumpers that came with my speakers!
