New top shelf Yamaha Speakers ?

Although very happy of course with my NS-1000M's, I'd been thinking of adding a pair of the beautiful Yamaha Soavo-1 speakers. Not having any luck finding them I e-mailed Yammaha about it because their web site advertises them, they are not listed at all in their 'discontinued' list. Worse yet, the guy says ''That line has been discontinued about 2 years". What ?
Do you mean to tell me all they have for top of the line speakers is what they have listed in 'Current Items' ? If so...wow.
If not i'd love a lead for some Yamaha dealer who knows what the heck the state of affairs with Yamaha is. I'm in Ohio but location really isn't important. Thanks for any and all input ! Doug

I was lucky in auditioning the soavos at home about a year ago and comparing to my ns2000.

Just too expensive for me at the time to purchase, just bad timing as I was just in the process of purchasing a property and funds were very limited.

The soavos run rings around my ns2000, and the ns2000 are no slouch either.

Brings the best out of the cx-1/mx-1 combo. I never imagined this combo could sound this good, just needed the perfect speaker to match.

Now that my finances are good, I have been on the lookout for the elusive soavos, but no luck yet here downunder, where the market is very tiny for such high end gear.

May have to source a pair from Yahoo Japan, where they occasionally pop up every now and then at quite good prices. But shipping cost to Australia would be a big drawback though.

If you can find a pair for sale locally, grab them and run.

Very rare to find.
People who have them just do not let them go.

Owing the Soavo 1 +2 and NS-2000 I would say the NS-2000 is far ahead. Much better transparency, deeper and better controlled bass. When comparing the Soavo 1 and 2, I prefer the smaller 2 together with the SW-900 subwoofer (better soundstage and less colored cabinet sound). However, impressing how much the Soavo's can take from a B-6 or M-2.
 
Dont know what they sold for new, and you did say location wasnt important - Piyanas Electrics in Bangkok has the Soavo-1 for just under 70K baht, so clearly some dealers still have stock.

xe.com pegs 10K Thai baht at around 315 USD tonight - do the math and these are well over 2K USD before shipping, assuming Piyanas could ship outside Thailand - I doubt Yamaha would allow that. Please note that Thai Customs slap a 30% import duty and 7.5% VAT on all imported goods - dont freak out if some of those prices seem out-of-whack. If it was made in Thailand, it may actually be cheaper than you pay in the US - if not, prepare for serious stiicker shock.

Looks as though Dr Ear and I have had opposite experiences with the soavos compared to our ns2000.

Just goes to show that type of room, position of speakers and the type of amplifiers and source all are a deciding factor in the final sound that one hears from each speaker.

Having said that, you will be equally impressed with either soavo or ns2000.

Both are pretty rare to find these days, especially the ns2000.

I've never in my whole life even auditioned a pair of Yamaha speakers, even though I've been otherwise exclusively Yamaha for some 40 years. But I *would* love to audition those. My MX-1000Us live in a large room with a 9-foot concert grand piano. Eight of those would look just too cool in that room and make all my Magnepans look too utilitarian. What'd be more cool would be if they sound as good as they look.
 
I'm the original owner of a pair of excellent NS-2000's. Uncrated back in the early 80"s from their shipping containers in the same living room where they now sit. So they are perfect examples. They also have the updated suspension for the woofers.
Does anyone have any idea how to put a price on these?

Also have a pair of NS-1000's that have some normal wear from use that play perfectly. How to value these would also be interesting?
 
I think NS1000's in great shape go from 500 or so with average cabinents to 700 plus or minus a 100-150 if they have super cabinents and drivers, all of which I'm sure yours have.
NS2000's I don't know, but I'm interested :). Doug
