New Tubes

NYListens

CBGB & OMFUG
Hmmm, took a about a year and a half to two years off from the hobby. Work was crazy and family stuff was a close second behind. Just noticed that there seem to be a lot more "new, new stock" tubes out there. I guess tube audio popularity is growing?

It's been growing for the past few years, and still is. 2005 is when I noticed it really starting to pick up steam. I remember when a decent Sherwood would go on Ebay about 50-60 bucks. Fishers were a little more. You might get a broken one for that price now.

According to the wikipedia article on 'vacuum tube', about a million 12AX7s are
being made in the world each year, at least that's what I remember reading about
two or three years ago.

There seem to be more new 12AX7 types and brands out there today than two or three years ago when I got into this hobby. I wonder why they can't come out with more 7591s?

I'd guess that the vast majority of vacuum tubes being produced go into guitar amplifiers. Lots of 12AX7s in guitar amps, not too many 7591s.

That makes sense. I guess we should be thankful that EH is making their version of them.

JJ (formerly Tesla) also makes a true 7591A and I believe it is closer in size to the original NOS types.

 EH7591 is in a larger bottle, they almost touch when installed in a Fisher receiver. They do sound nice. I was fairly impressed with the JJ 7591 tubes as well. I've been told that they have reliability issues, but a good matched quad from a reputable seller should be problem free.
