New WC-1 case for my Marantz 125 tuner

I have been anxiously awaiting the new WC-1 wood case for my Marantz 125 tuner. I have a 1200 integrated with a WC-1, and wanted the tuner to have a case to complement it. Not many makers of Marantz reproduction cases bother with the WC-1 because it is in less demand than the WC-22 or WC-43. I was really happy to see that AK member @Aaron99 was offering these through his web site, VintageHifiAudio.com. The build quality is fantastic, the tuner fit perfectly, and as you can see, it is really beautiful. Thought those of you looking for the more difficult to find cases might be interested in pics.

Looks killer! Miss my ol 125. Something about those.. The stacked meters, symmetrical knobs and center inscription. Timeless and elegant!

I recently picked up two from him as well for a 2325 and 140. Both are head turners!
 
Nice! Just got mine today as well. Can’t wait to see how it looks on my 1200 or 1120. :D

There are two removable wood strips screwed inside the sides of the case. I had to remove them to fit my 125, but I’m pretty sure they stay put for your 1200.
 
Looks great. I consider the wood cabinets a 'must have' for my pieces. I'm so glad there are people making repro's. Trying to find an original in just decent shape would be a challenge, then figure the price in. Now we can get brand new.

Looks awesome, Mike. If you identify the correct screws, let me know. I have four empty holes in my 1200, which is in another WC-1. It doesn’t have the wood strips, so there is nothing behind the faceplate. I didn’t need the strips in the new case I bought for the 125. I’ll probably install them in my older case and put screws in the faceplate.
 
@Steven Tate After a little trial and error I found #4 x 1/2” wood screws work great and fit the tapered opening perfectly. Got mine at Lowe’s but I’m sure almost anyone carries them.

Personally I’m just trying to decide if a Phillips head screw looks appropriate for a vintage receiver. Might see if I can find someone that sells the same size with a slotted head. Stupid detail but it’s the type of silly thing I notice. :)

Thanks for the reply! What kind of finish did you get? Seems like it would be hard to find something with a finish close to the 1200 faceplate.
 
They’re chrome which doesn’t match. But they’re so small it’s honestly hard to see from a few feet away. I’m definitely on the hunt for something more appropriate.
 
@Steven Tate Had to dredge this thread up from the depths of 2019. I recently found the following information in the user manual for my 1120 which has the same faceplate screw holes as 1200, etc.

Later in the manual it explains how to use the #4 wood screws to mount the 1120 in a custom enclosure. In that section it refers to them as oval headed. Still no info on slotted or Phillips head. But interesting that they were bronzed, which totally doesn’t match the face. Hmmm...

So I guess a #4 oval headed wood screw would be appropriate. 1/2” long works fine. The wood block behind the screw hole isn’t that deep.
 
That’s great to know. I was listening to the 1200 just yesterday, and couldn’t stop staring at those four open holes on the front. I made a mental note to start looking for some screws for it. The holes are countersunk, so probably would want flathead screws. But the finish — that’s the tough nut to crack. The only easy ones to get are silver colored and brass. I’m not sure either one would look right. Any ideas?
 
Flat head or oval head will both fit that countersunk hole. The oval head will have a dome that protrudes slightly and is what they shipped with the unit.

I might be tempted to find some chrome or silver type screws and lightly sand them to try and get the brushed look. Just spit balling an idea. Definitely not going with the original bronze. :(
 
i dropped a decorative bronze screw from a tube cage on one of my phono pre's a few years ago never did find it. i found silver ones and used a sharpie on one and got it to match. i have both bronze and gold sharpies but dont remember which i used or if i had to use a few coats.
