Painstakingly remastered from the original master tapes by guitarist Jimmy Page, and pressed at Pallas (Europe's best plant), this 180g LP sounds utterly amazing. Page spent years on this project with one goal in mind: Making these reissues the end-all-be-all definitive editions of his iconic band's records. He has succeeded, and then some. In addition to the reference-caliber audio, each LP features packaging that fully replicates the look of the first pressing of the original album. You won't believe how these records sound, look, and feel.*

stoked.

My thoughts are that Zep played loud. Jimmy remastered these tapes (how many times now?) again after 40 years of playing at high decibels. It would be a mistake to assume his hearing is as good as it was 40 years ago. It can't be. I'm 56 and I know my hearing is not what it used to be and I never played in a heavy metal band.

So essentially you would be listening to a CD, but on vinyl?
Who would want that?

No, you'd be listening to a high resolution digital source pressed onto vinyl. Certainly I'd prefer the high resolution source directly via a DVD-Audio, SACD, or BD-A, but it'll still sound good on vinyl as long as the mastering is good. The mastering quality is what matters most.

They go for not much more used on ebay anyway. Easily 20$. I pre-ordered the first 3 re-issues for like 50$ from Barnes and Nobles with a discount. These should at the very least bring the costs of the older ones down. Doesn't hurt.

Always amazed how many folks will pass judgement before hearing the product! I haven't preordered but I am hopeful that they'll be good.

I pre-ordered the basic records (no deluxe extras) so I suppose I will know in the next day or so. My original pressings are long gone and prices for a decent used album are much higher than $22. For a decent new LP with original packaging, it's not a bad deal.

But the source in the article is not proof this is a fact: "If the anonymous source is correct, this is simply a travesty." The real proof will be how the records sound at home.

They weren't the best recordings mixing and engineering wise to start with. Let's just see how they sound before we make a decision. Like Bayou Tiger, I am going to wait as the price won't change. I have the originals and don't listen to them so these if they sound good will be just added to the collection.

Sighhh. Yet another Zepplin 're release'. A semi annual event it seems All clearly involved Jimmy Page.. as if.
Original LPs' (have em since New) were NOT milestones of the recording engineer's art. Mediocre is an honest descriptor.
Still good to listen to though :-)
Besides several CD 're issues' in boxed sets even, are available used for peanuts.. why Bother?

All 3 of the deluxe editions (more $$) have an xtra LP (7 LP's total) or two including some live cuts and/or various alternate mixes.

quote from the band's official website:

Technical note: The new remasters were created from 192 kHz/24 bit digital transfers of the original analogue tapes. The catalogue is being remastered now to take advantage of the significant advances in mastering technology that have occurred since 1991.

These new LPs sound very good and are nice, thick, and flat pressings (Pallas in Germany).

Zep IV and Houses of the Holy are slated to come out in October. The remaining four albums will come out throughout 2015.

New, clean, good-sounding Zep vinyl for less than $25/album is a good deal considering what the originals and Classic Records versions go for.

John Davis remastered them; Page only supervised. Page's hearing isn't an issue.

The high-res files (24/96) are available for standalone purchase in Europe via Highresaudio.com. They are slated to be available in the U.S. via HDTracks.com Tuesday (e.g. in an hour or so - though they may not show up there until later in the morning).

I ordered back on Mar 23. Amazon still shows, they haven't collected funds, nor shipped. Website shows, unavailable.
