Newbie Magnavox Micromatic W620 questions

I picked up a late 60's Magnavox console (Model 1P3804) with a Micromatic turntable. I did some quick cleaning and greasing of the unit under the platter but I have not touched the motor or took the unit out to clean any components on the bottom side. The unit seems to be working well, but I do have two issues.

1.) When I play a record for the first time, the vocals sound great but instruments sound off with a whining kind of sound. For example, the guitar may sound like someone is playing a saw. After the first song, everything sounds great. It is almost as if the unit is warming up. It happens on every record. If I play music for awhile and then come back a few hours later, most of the time everything still sounds great. What could be causing this?

2.) The FM reception isn't very good. The attenna that runs up and along the back is not connected to anything. Where should this be connected? Is there anything else I can do to help with this signal?

It may be a tubed unit and if so will need warm up. The wiring on the antenna should have a connection post where it should be connected. It looks to be just below your hand. Most likely you will need to recap the amp and preamp.

Thanks for the info. The unit is not a tube unit. I am going to try and clean the motor and grease it to see if that helps.

It needs a proper servicing. By someone who's qualified. Not unusual for the Magnavox consoles to need some maintenance with age, especially electrolytic capacitors, and tuners needing some alignment. and dealing with dirty switches and pots, Remember, this is over 40 years old now.
