Newly acquired pair of Sansui Q-15's!!!

I just recently purchased a pair of Sansui Q-15's from Rick /aka Johnny Fever and couldn't be happier! It really was nice dealing with someone who knows and appreciates these early Sansui Tube amps as much as I do, and it showed in his packing job as well! Damn near bullet proof for safe arrival!

I've got them currently hooked up with my CA-303 preamp and SP-5500's speakers......And they are sounding VERY nice!

I always tell people "I haven't heard a Sansui I didn't like" and I have also found that I have loved the sound of every el84 / 6bq5 amp I've had the chance to own or hear! So these rare Japanese beauties are a combination of both loves and are leaving me grinning from ear to ear right now!

That is a killer setup right there. Ultra rare all around, as the CA-303 is near impossible to find, and the Q-15 practically non-existent. The SP-5500 are also tough to find, and are ultra effcient, so should be well mated to tube amps of more modest output power. Oh, and I see that TU-9900 hiding down there...I tip my hat, well played sir.

These Q-15's sound great with the SP-5500's! Even with the volume at the second notch on the 303, fills my room and house for that matter with music!

In the not too distant future I have plans to triamp my Q-15s, HF-V60's, and HF-L60's with the built in crossover on the CA-303 along with my 3 way, Spendor S100's! Having 6 mono blocks going at the same time should raise the temp in the listening room. Lol!

Yes packing vintage gear correctly is a high priority. Especially this insanely rare stuff. Your a serious player dude. I can tell by the rare pieces in your tube & SS collection. Now that i am shaking loose some of my Tube amp collection its nice to see you got the Big Q's. I think 5 tube systems and 40 pieces is enough for me. I also might post some great shots i took of the Q amps. Thanks. Fever

Can't thank you enough for the opportunity Fever! They are definitely in good hands and will be enjoyed and appreciated for years to come!
 
bluesy as the AK Sansui historian what can you share about the rarity of the Q-15's ?

Yes Dave, that little BA- 202 is quite easy on the ears as well! I know I've been gone a while. I've been wanting to get back to you about That pair of Q-55's I have. There turned out to be major issues with both of them actually, and has left my tech disgruntled and probably cursing my name for all eternity! :rant: I'm hoping to finally get back to his shop and pick them up in the next week or so and find out what the issue was. Last I spoke with him I could hear the frustration in his voice over them and decided just leave them alone. YOU AND THESE DAMN SANSUI'S!! :wtf: Luckily, most of my amps have been able to get restored but a few were just beyond repair. Thats the way it goes I suppose. Its discouraging when it happens, but it hasnt stopped my passion for them!
 
Sorry to hear about the Q-55's. It is always a risk with these vintage amps. I too have been fortunate but some have needed a really skilled tech to get them back to their prime. Somehow I don't think anything could quell your passion for Sansui.

My latest additions were a 2nd BA-202 (on its way) and a full set of Plug-In-Units for the CA-303. Finally will be able to match your tri-amp setup. Rick is on me to get a nice set of Altec's to finish it off.

Good problems to have!

That's cool that you found the Plug in Units! Those are not easy to come by. Did you find them in Japan?
 
Yes, Yahoo Japan. First time I have ever seen them offered and I monitor regularly. Was fortuante they were not marketed well and I was the only bidder. Original packaging, 100% complete and look to have never been installed. Most of the rare tube equipment I have come across has been from Japan.

NIIIIIICE! That is a serious score and lucky find! I have never even seen the plug in units for sale! Congrats.
