I'm not sure what you meant by questioning the creative destruction bit, but perhaps I can clarify the term. I believe that economists use the term to mean one idea drives out another, not making a judgement about the merits of one or the other. The decline and subsequent increase of vinyl is an interesting example, if it were all about keeping the "best" technology winning, that would not happen. (Note that I'm avoiding any preference here, that issue has been debated in many other places!)
