I've been looking for a Victor UA-7045 tonearm to match with my TT-81. I ran across an eBay ad for a complete turntable, TT-71 drive, CLP1 plinth and a UA-7045 tonearm. The plinth was scratched up and I didn't know what condition the other components were in. But for the price of a decent UA-7045 tonearm, i got the whole thing, shipped free from Japan. When it arrived, the TT-71 spins but doesn't keep speed, I'll dive into that at some point. But the tonearm was good, nice and tight. It came with a Fidelity Research headshell and a Grace F-8 cartridge. The stylus seems ok with the naked eye, but I'll test it out and see how it does.
I lightly sanded the plinth, and put some dark walnut stain on it, it came out nice. I was going to strip the existing veneer, but it cleaned up fine. I loaded my TT-81 into the plinth, adjusted the tonearm and it's ready to go!
Chatgpt says it's an upgrade from my Pioneer PL-1400 (PL-71), mainly due to the quartz lock of the TT-81 and a significant tonearm upgrade. I'll let my ears be the judge. It will be nice to have a quartz lock drive.
