Thanks for the heads up. I've been a Nick Lowe fan since the Brinsley Schwarz days, so this new album is going to be a much needed shot in the arm for me...can't wait till I get to hear it!
 
Ok. After listening it to it on line and getting it on cd this morning, my first reaction is - this is the album of the year, at least in the 'geezers like me' division.

Seriously, you ever get an album that just sounds *perfect*? Like there's not a note out of place, and absolutely no strain by anyone, yet the music isn't slack? That's this.

Plus "I Read A Lot" is the tune Burt Bacharach didn't write, but should have.

Nick’s last four or five albums have been, at the very least, terrific and, more often than not, spectacular reflections on aging and other aspects of the human condition. They demand repeated listens to truly “get,” but once the message is fully absorbed, it’s some monumentally moving stuff.

The selfish part of me would love to see him revert back to the wry, barb-witted firebrand of yore, but he seems to have put that persona to bed once and for all and is content to play the gentle-strumming elder statesman role. I love him both ways. :thmbsp:
 
I have heard him on NPR Fresh Air a couple of times in the last few years. I think Terri Gross has a crush on him...:D. The guy really sounds like he has matured as an artist and songwriter. Very enjoyable to hear him just picking out tunes in the studio

Nick is simply amazing...the more frail he looks, the better he sounds!!! Saw him perform for The Prairie Home Companion. He sang a new song called "I Read Alot"...and I freakin' got goosebumps. This guy is a treasure...

It's only for a few Wilco shows, not the whole tour. I looked at Nicks tour page. The Madison WI show is with Wilco, but not Milwaukee.
 
40-odd minutes ago, Nick just 'closed' a 'political' chat-show on BBC [National] TV. He sang 'House For Sale', which left me duly impressed. So I then Googled straight into this thread [without coming in through the front door].

Maybe you've already caught his 'Tiny Desk Concert'; but if you haven't, you will like it. The Youtube version did not come through as clearly, for my system, as does this copy [+ great photo!] on "Consequence of Sound" Nick Lowe. Hope you enjoy it.

House For Sale is a really really well written song, it's like it has always existed, timeless.
