Nikko advice...

Hi Doc,

I love it, the Yamaha Preamp I think suffices with this unit. I just swapped it out with my Harman Kardon Citation 19 which runs great too, both are equal, but it is the speakers and what I am using, as I am sure there is a difference somewhere but opinions and tastes are a big continuum with gear of late and today!

I broke two of those speaker post things (need to find the correct term for them - binding posts) on the back of the amp and I am looking for help on how to find them to replace.

The Nikko 130 is awesome and it is close to the sound of the Alpha II, the guy I bought them off of, knows how to make stuff look and run like mint and his prices are great! I sadly have rub marks now on the top as I was trying to hook up my Citation 19 and put it on top so I can make the wires reach...long story my stand is horrible and made of glass if I move it without lifting it, it will all come down!

I did a sound test using a Panasonic BD 50 (2008) to play a CD (Def Leppard) and then used my FLAC and MP3's from my computer using the DAC Magic 100 and the computer makes the music fuller so I packed the CD up (barely used it due to downloads back in the day) and I am still using the computer.

It's worth much more than the price your thinking about... IF it all works.

A lot of Navy guys bought Nikko in Japan back in '71-'72 !

I own the nikko beta 2 and alpha 2. I did own a nikko alpha 130 and beta 40. Not bad and good performance for the money. The original roman numeral marked gear is amazing and in my opinion better the later gear.

As mentioned by someone else the power amps and tuners are quite good. The pre's are just ok. Nikko is good value if you stay away from the late game peices mid to late 80s nikko gear it got a little too bpc Imho.

Yeah, I agree, although the 130 really sounds nice too. Right now the binding posts or one of them broke right off due to their age. So, I am trying to find out how the heck a person takes them right out and replaces them with the ones from Parts Express who have similar looking posts. I unscrew it until it stops then I really try to turn it more but nothing is pulling out any further and since I am new to this stuff I do not want to break anymore but the one black post is right off just the metal showing now!

I will never really sell what I have as it all is good stuff for the price for sure. I sure would like to hear some older MacIntosh and Marantz stuff!

cheers

My NR-315 receiver was BOTL. It is rated for 4 ohm speakers though, sounds nice, and I like the style. Plenty loud for a small room, at least for me.
What is that one rated at I wonder? Some people on hear mention to go with Integrated because of the way it matches up with the 'pre and amp' design built all in one.

I was thinking on buying a Marantz PM6005 or 6006 (cannot afford much more than that)!

Nice. I think my amps are 1978/79. I was learning the vintage stuff through my brother and was trying out the two piece systems - pre and amp. I am looking for a integrated (vintage) with a nice warm sound for playing jazz, classical ... the mellow stuff. My other gear is loud and it loosened some of the wax in my ears so the sound is getting better! ha ha

Ghostberry, see my post reply to yours in the Yamaha M70 thread, we'll be able to help you remove the old binding posts, and figure out how to improvise mounting the new ones you are looking at via Parts Express.
