Can anyone tell me something(s) about the Nikko Alpha 600 amp?

I can't seem to find the specs, manual on it. I have a guy in Toronto who has one for sale he goes by the handle DJVC wants $350 CAD

Any info or link to some documentation will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

$350.00?? Barter with him and see if he'll go down on price. If not, tell him you'll mow his lawn for a month! (lol) :D Not really, just joking!

Model year: 1988
MSRP: $760
Power Output: 180W x 2 @ 8Ω continuous, approx. 200W x 2 @ 4Ω continuous.

I don't know what other specs or documentation you are looking for or really need and whether such information will be useful. :) Speaking as a former Nikko devotee and owner of several of their products, distortion levels as I recall were always less than .01% -- certainly well below the threshold of audibility. Dynamic power usually averaged around 2.0dB above the continuous ratings. The amp manuals were usually spartan in nature, providing mostly basic hookup instructions useful only to a novice.

What about the fan? Is it audible if listening to jazz, etc. at low volumes?

Thanks

Here are few pictures of mine. I think I have a owners manual at home. I will check this weekend.

Web Police can tell you about the fan in the 600. The fan in my Alpha 2000 was never audible under normal listening levels. Actually it was the quietest fan of any amp I have ever come across - certainly quieter than the ones in SAE and Hafler amps, both of which I have also owned.

I agree under normal listening levels I have never heard the fan.

I think the only time it is audible is if I have my head behind the amp with nothing playing through the speakers.

If I remember correctly the fan is thermally coupled to the heatsink. So it spins faster when the heatsink gets hotter. If the bearings are not worn, it should be very quiet.

On a side note: the Nikko pre-amps are rarely mentioned in dispatches. I have however always rated them very highly. I used to work for the UK importers in the 80's and regret not earning enough at the time to afford what I we were selling. When I hear ALPHA, I go all green with envy:drool:.

wow webpolice, that nikko set-up looks awesome, I bet it pounds!

I have a NR-1415 and it can handle anything i've thrown its way, I cant imagine the power of that beast.

I have always liked the sound of my Nikko amps and rank them up there with the best sounding amps I have owned.

2 cents

I have enjoyed my Nikko amps since i have owned them...about 3 years now......ive only heard great things:thmbsp:

@Pol68

So that you're not waiting for a response

The member you quoted and asked question to hasn't been seen or posted on AK in close to 15 years ago. He didn't respond then so I doubt you'll be getting answer.
