Nikko Alpha I

I just picked up a Nikko Alpha I amp in excellent condition. It's a beast at 52 pounds, but at least it has handles on the front. I paid $100 for it, and so far I like it a lot. It sounds very good.

Anybody know anything about this amp? From some other posts I've read, I think it's rated at 220WPC, which makes it far and away the most powerful amp I've ever owned.

Very nice amp. For $100 you did very well. Nikko gear is very under the radar now, so you could probably pick up the matching preamp and tuner for about another $200. They are the Beta I and Gamma I. I've owned all three and thought they made a great system. Have fun.:thmbsp:

Thanks guys. It's definitely overkill for my small office (10x12) but I couldn't pass it up. It is excellent cosmetic shape, but when I switch it on and off, I can hear the relay contact bounce (for lack of a better description). I checked the DC offset when I first picked it up and it seemed fine (don't remember what it was now though - I'll have to go back and check it again). Maybe the relay just needs a good cleaning. Otherwise, it is indeed a nice amp.

If the relay is "buzzing" and it measures ok at the speaker terminals, you probably have a weak transistor in the relay driver circuit.
