Nikko AM/FM stereo Receiver model 8085

For a long time now, I have been looking for the Yamaha CR-2020 Receiver but it seems they have become a hard find.:tears:

I'v now settled & acquired the Nikko AM/FM stereo Receiver model 8085. There are some discussions relating to the NIKKO how they are well built. But I can't find any reviews on the actual 8085 model. Anyone know much about this model & in your opinion what can you say about the sound performance...Sharp, natural , musically accurate, specifications, any info about your own personal experience will be appreciated.

closest I have in terms of info...

I just noticed the AM & FM when first turned on (cold) works excellent but only for a moment then cuts out, no sound!!! I was thinking maybe I have to connect the antenna.... but no sound at all, not even static.

I have a great Nikko Sta 8080 in mint condition. Very nicely made.
Attach the atenna because you won't hear anything without it
with fm muting button on.

Usually voltage regulator (although it could always be something else - YMMV) - the pass transistor goes open after warming up. Could also be solder connections around it, but we always replaced them. Any good TO-220 type transistor will work. TIP31, TIP41, MJE35028, MJE25030, D44H11 are readily available. Look for transistor with small heat sink mounted by itself.

Nice tuner, and nice sounding receiver (about 45 rms per channel) Next to TOTL at the time (9095 was TOTL until the 1415 arrived in the late 70's)
 
I bought one of these in fantastic condition for a no-brainer price a couple months ago. It has a nice warm sound to it, and has good soundstage presentation. Nikko definitely seems to be underrated. I wound up selling it to my dad, and now he's enjoying it in his system.

Yup. NT-850 is my everyday tuner, NR-819 is currently boxed up and awaiting second system duty, and I just finished a TRM-750 which is going to replace my beloved Kenwood KA-3500.
