Nikko and Denon 1800 Score

Stopped by a local thrift and came across the following gear that was being sold as a set for $60; Nikko NR-819,Denon DCD -1800 and a pair of Optimus 27 speakers. I have heard some positive here about the Nikko recievers and the Denon's so I thought it seemed worth the price. All pieces are in very good condition and function well. The Denon and Optimus date from 85 and 80but I am not sure of the Nikko. Anyone have any specs on the Nikko??

I've located a test report of the Nikko in the October 1979 issue of High Fidelity magazine. I could scan and post it here tomorrow if anybody is interested. Some specs:

Rated power: 45 wpc
output at clipping: 56 wpc (8 ohms) or 75 wpc ( 4 ohms)
harmonic distortion (THD 20 Hz to 20 kHz) at 45 wpc less than 0.04 %
frequncy response: +0.5,-1 9 hz to 27 kHz
damping factor 32

G-Thanks again! It looks and so far sounds I did alright for the money. It really seems to be a well balanced unit and the receiver section does a very good job of pulling in stations.

The CD player is actually why I had stopped there in the first place. I had seen the 1800 on CL a couple of weeks ago for $20. When I contacted the owner he replied back that he had dropped it off at the thrift store. I just gambled that it might still be on the floor and got an added bous as well of the Nikko and the speakers.I did a quick search on the Bay and one in similar condition to mine just went for $150 plus shipping.

The speakers are really very good. I did some further looking on the RS catalog archive and it turns out they only made this speaker for 1 year. My guess is that most people did not understand the concept of the passive radiator speaker and past it by. I suspect RS did not sell much of them so they might be fairly rare though probably not sought after becasue of the Realistic label. I can only say at this point that if have a chance to grab a pair you should do it.

More pics of the Denon

Cleaned this up as well. A few scrapes and scratches on the top but overall it is in good condition. There is date code on the back which i am thinking means this was made in January 85 but perhaps a Denon expert can add more info. Very smooth operating machine even after 25 years.

Optimus 27 Pics

And some more photos...... Maybe someone can identify the tweeter. I think the RS catalog mentioned it was linen. Appearance and sound is similar to a DCM TF series speaker.
