The Nikko equipment I've used (seperates and a couple of recievers) has been very good. Their real low end stuff is no better than anyone else's, but the upper end stuff deserves more notice than it gets. Your piece is later than the stuff I had, but I think you'll like it.

I'm waiting to take delivery of a Nikko NR 1219 any day now!

Hope to have good news! :thmbsp:

Doug, how does that bad boy sound? What speakers are ya running with it?

Hah! I wish, this is just from my stolen pic collection. I was seriously looking at one on ebay about two weeks ago tho!

Just running seperates right now.

I own a complete Nikko system and love it. Int amp, tuner casstete player and EQ. I have pic's I could post. Looks and sounds great BUT around 1982-1983 major changes hit Nikko. Nikko is the largest maker of ceramics in the world for over 40 years and decided around 1982-84 to stop making audio products and sold 'Nikko Electronics' trade name. They still make remote control hobby electronics. I'm sure the NR 1000 is a good vintage receiver but a few steps down from the gear made from the 'real' Nikko in the 70's.
Congrats on the find!

I was told by the owner of AudioSource (or whatever the name of the real audio place in Keene NH that is not Interface (whose owner is also a font of information)) that Nikko's real business was circuit breakers (hence the circuit breakers rather than fuses in Nikko products). Nikko's collapse was a result of the death of the owner and a squabble between the children, and the division of the company among them. A pity, since as all the posters have noted, their audio products were good to excellent.
I think on the east coast at least, they suffered from being thought of a Tech HiFI's house brand. But the seperates I had a while ago, and the 819 reciever I have now are more than respectable -- I was in the process of trading in one of the Alpha amps for a much newer Hafler when I realised the Hafler didn't sound better, and might have sounded worse.
By the way, I think the company that specialised in ceramics was Kyocera -- Kyoto Ceramics. But I might be wrong.

Yes, and dishes! Nikko is still is one of the world's largest ceramincs makers in the world. Anything ceramic Nikko is still doing along with electronic remote controlled toys.
I read about the selling of the trade name 'Nikko Electronics' from a audio trade journal around 1983. (It was in Rt. 46 Electroincs in Totowa NJ.....my older cousin use to work there and he let me hang around the back office once in a while.) From what I remember reading, the stereo division was small business compared to their ceramic industry, so my guess is they felt moving into the 80's the big money was not in producing audio products so they sold the name 'Nikko Electronics' as it was trademark.
Whoever bought the trade name kept making audio products well into the 90's. Quality got worst as time went along, as I said , nothing like Nikko of the 60's 70's. I love my Nikko system. It looks and sounds so good. All black with meters and red and green lights on the analog tuner, pretty cool stuff.

My Nikko system:
Nikko NA 690
Nikko tuner NT790
NIkko 590
NIkko EQ I
