There's a Nikko STR 8010 for sale locally for $85. Does anyone know anything about this receiver?

I searched the forums here and Google but didn't come up with much.

All input appreciated!!:thmbsp:

I'm going to pose an alternate view although I do respect onepixel's views immensely. I'm also probably drifting into "Dollars and Sense."

I have a STA-8010. It's the black (smoked plastic) top/champagne annodized metal bottom model that looks like my McIntosh MA230 when the Nikko's turned. When the Nikko is powered on, the top has a green tuning scale that reminds me of my old C-28. IMO it's a very nice looking little receiver, very McIntosh looking complete with champagne vertical side rails on the front panel. It's in Wisconsin, and I'm not, so no pics. The pics elsewhere on AK seem to show one with a grey annodized front bottom panel.

It sounds nice too. A bit on the warm side (good to me). It would definitely make a nice little bedroom receiver. There's lots about the Nikko brand elsewhere on AK. I'm running it with some $15/pair modded Presidians (3uF cap and foam lined interior). Fills a medium sized living room with FM sound.

I got mine with a nice wood case for $7 at a yard sale and everything works. The FM does have a tendency to drift so I think an alignment is in order but that probably would cost $50-100. Regardless, I really like the little bugger.

However, unless you are collecting Nikko, and/or it comes with the wood case, original boxes and manuals and is absolutely pristine, I think the price is a bit high. IIRC it was their BOTL receiver and is only 20w/ch or so. Maybe mine was an unbelievable find but I'd pay maybe $30 max for it.

IMO, there are many other nice, even better, little receivers you could pick up for far less $. For example for $85, if you get lucky you may be able to find a similar powered Advent Model 300 receiver. If I was looking (picking what to buy rather than buying what I run across), that's what I'd get. Alternatively, seems to me I paid $30 for a pristine 20W/ch HK 350i at a yard sale too, and it still functions as new.
