Nikko TRM-600

Theophilus Punoval

The Queen says it's OK...
I was schmoozing around Ebay and spotted a Nikko TRM-600 - item # 230442561341, price $25 with a day and a half to go for those interested - and noticed that the speaker outputs are exactly the same as a Harman Kardon 430. These are the only two companies I've seen that use this type of connectors.

I was wondering if the units were made by one company for another. Does anyone have any info?

Nikko did a lot of parts manufacturing and sub-assembly work for HK, Luxman, Marantz, and Sansui. That's why you often see similarity in their components and internal designs. They probably did work for others as well, but those relationships I know from Japanese audio magazines.

I used to live in Sagami, Japan, where most of these components were made in the good old MIJ days. All of the factories were near each other. Marantz, Luxman, and Sansui still make some stuff there, mostly for the Japanese and European high end markets. I believe it's all coming out of one plant - the old Marantz factory in Sagami-ohno.

Kenwood's big plant was around there too, toward Enoshima. Pioneer had plants all over Japan. Sony and Toshiba (Onkyo) were up in the southern end of Tokyo. Not sure what they're doing now as most manufacturing is in China.

Fairly common for that vintage

Those connectors were fairly common in that vintage. You can find tehm on Marantz and Sansui in particular. They were often all black but still a common type. They seem to be the first gen after screw connectors.
