Not a giveaway but an ok price if condition is excellent.
The beta 30 pre is very boring sounding (I have one) but can apparently sound really good if you update the two op amp chips. I'm going to try this one of these days.
The Alpha power amps are excellent, well made and sound great. I have a 450 and it's really fantastic.

Absolutely! There's nothing proprietary about the Nikko, you can use any pre amp you'd like.
The Beta 30 is fine, nothing bad about it, but the sound is just kind of analytical.
Sorry, haven't owned any Phillips gear.

I'm currently using a Sansui AU7900 as a pre into the Nikko Alpha 450. I've rebuilt both with new electrolytic capacitors and film capacitors in the smaller values. I really like the sound of mid to late 70's Sansui.

Your Philips gear will smoke any Nikko gear ever made. Price is too high for the Nikko I would pass.
The Phillips is boss IMO

@Sdynamics If I might offer some advice. Since I don't know your age or location I will be brief. Learn, Listen, Look & Learn. This is a hobby and not an investment stratagy. Your Philips amp & Pre are some of their very best. You will not best them for $550.00 cad You will in fact need to aim much higher unless some true "high end" components fall in your lap. What speakers and other sources are you listening to? Why are you thinking of making a change? What benifit are you wanting from said change? If you answer these questions you will be in a much better place to make a change/purchase.
Don't rely on anything I said or others say. Only you know what sounds good to you. Audiokarma is a great resource but it is up to you to sort and refine the the info you get here.
If you folow this advice you will do quite well I am sure.

How long have you had these? the reason I ask is that as of a couple of weeks ago you were inquiring about them.
You mention they sound great, If you just got them take your time to get used to them before looking to move onto other equipment if that is what your intent is.
