I have been working in NYC for years and going to the local record stores. I never had a lot of luck. I didn't think there were many records that I wanted. I already have about 1000 cd's and 500 records. I have probably bought about 40 used records at the dozen NYC stores that I went to over the years. I always felt that everything was picked over, and what was left was in poor condition or overpriced. I recently saw a copy of David Bowie's Heroes which had a cover that was moist. I left disgusted.
About a month ago I saw a record store that I remembered from thirty years ago, in Westwood, NJ. I went in expecting to leave with nothing. I bought a dozen records in great condition. A week later I bought another dozen. The place is overflowing with great condition vinyl.
I recently visited a store in Princeton and left with another dozen records.
I decided to google nj record stores and have gone to three other record stores that came up on google.
I went to a store in Bordentown, NJ and came home with an awesome stash of a dozen New Wave records.
On my way home from there I stopped at a store in Fords, NJ. I left with another fifty records, and went back the next day to grab another dozen that I left behind.
Today I went to Maple Shade,NJ. I left with a dozen records. I stopped by the Bordentown store and grabbed another dozen records. Lastly I stopped in the store in Fords and grabbed another fifteen records.
I am astonished at how many records I have picked up in the last few weeks. All of these albums are in very good condition or better and reasonably priced. I have found records from Adam and the Ants to Wall of Voodoo, from Frank Sinatra to David Bowie and Leonard Cohen and just about everyone in between.
My favorite score is Lene Lovich - Stateless on the Stiff label for four bucks.
Does anyone know of any other good record stores around.
