Hi There, I have the Yamaha RX-a2020 receiver and lately have had audio issues. I have multiple zones and have noticed only issues in one of the zones:the TV. The receiver turns on and sometimes we have sound and other times we don’t. At first I thought it was only from one input but now it is all of them (Xbox, etc). There are popping sounds at times and then the audio will kick in but doesn’t always stay on. Eventually the sound does come on but sometimes takes a while.

Most probably it is due to the DTS chip overheating that is plaguing Yamaha/Onkyo receivers made 10 years ago. It is not an easy fix because it is a BGA chip. You will need to send it to a repair shop that can do BGA soldering to fix it.
You could also flow flux under it and carefully heat the chip up to about 220C to reflow the solder under it. Do this at your own risk. This might temporary fix the problem. You will want to install an heatsink on the top of it so it last longer. Here is my RX-A3000 with a heatsink installed on the top of the DTS chip.
