No more audio gear for me!

Time to start flipping! Keep the things you really like the best and sell, donate or otherwise dispose of a few. Next - audition your next move before you bring it home, and only acquire things that sound better than what you have, substituting 2 or 3 for one.

I would ask some of your female classmates to come over and help you rank your stuff, tell them you have it on good authority (me) that women have better hearing than men (they do).

I agree with the previous posts about it being a wholesome hobby. Try to share your thoughts with your folks and play some music they might like sometimes, they'll either soon tire of it and let you pursue your hobby or maybe even get involved!

LOL.... this is great. I'm 43 and married and I still have the same problem!

What you have to do is exactly what other here have suggested. Flip some stuff. You certainly don't need 4 cassette decks for example. Put them out on Criagslist and see if you can raise some hifi recycling spair change.

They'll see you as making an effort, you'll get some funds to augment your next purchase. Win win for everyone.

You may find a gal that likes old hi fi stuff as much as you... but likely not. You just gotta learn to play the system. Good Luck.

Steve

You definitely need to find something to sell at a profit. All it takes is one piece, and suddenly your hobby becomes a profit center.

Then your obsession becomes a "business", time you waste on audio gear becomes "entrepreneurial research", and all your audio gear around the house becomes "inventory".

When you swap components in your system(s) you are actually doing a little "quality control", and when you don't sell anything for a while you are simply waiting for "more favorable market conditions".

Bah Humbug! Dont start getting yourself in the cycle of being hen pecked at your age, next thing ya know you'll be 40 + years old & getting bitched at by your wife about your gear & other crap you collect,if you start capitulating now by the time your 40 years old you'll be used to giving in.

My suggestion.

Dont stop collecting anything, Bring your girlfriend home & bend her over the pile of audio gear

Very subtle we are...:D:butt2:
What you meant was bend her over the pile of THE BIG SPEAKERS PLAYING BASE&DRUMS, right? :smoke:

Wow! looks like I missed all the fun.

All I was gonna say is come up with some way to use the stuff. Me, I've got sets of different sizes in the kitchen, living room (2), basement room (2), bedroom, workbench and kids' rooms. Now all my stuff serves actual purposes, I don't get any heat for it. So break your stuff up into setups and sell the extra pieces and pick up speakers or whatever stuff you are lacking. If you can't find a use for a given system, you can gift somebody.

You've got to post a pic of that Soundesign console, Ray, if for no other reason to the silence the nonbelievers around here! Or have you already..?

Well my soundesign system looks a lot like this exept the receiver is shorter in height and does not have the spectrum anyliser and EQ and the turntable is integrated into it and the finish is darker on mine and the cabinet is shorter in height and has no glass.. and the speakers dont have the "SD" badge

So pretty much it doesn't look like this at all would be a fair assessment?

Maybe you could say that but, then again the Dual cassette deck and the rest of the receiver unit looks similar and so do the speakers and of course the cabinet.... I guess I was being vague....

I think I'll put on that Bruce springsteen record "born to run" to see If I like that album..:music:

well once I get a change to go over to my mothers house where ALL of my gear is exept my boombox... :tears:
