No Output Sound for Technics M270X

Hi all, I just got this Technics M270X and I noticed it does not play any sound through the line out. I did try and play through the line in and I could hear the tape playing at a decent sound level but the sound quality wasn’t good. I also tried different RCA cables, different inputs, and just about anything. Also the db meter doesn’t even light up one bit while the tape is playing. Any idea on what this problem might be?
