NO SIGNAL from Kenwood KR - 4010

Hello, I am new to vintage gear and I just got a Kenwood KR 4010. When I hooked it up I heard faint noise coming from the tuner, but when I switched to phono I have no signal. When I switch back to the tuner, I have a signal, but nothing from the speakers. I know my speakers and turntable work. Should I start by cleaning the RCA jacks? What else can I try?

Elliot, I'd suggest cleaning the switches to remove this as a potential problem. If your KR is similar to my KR-9400, you have a lot of monitor switches, selector switches, filter switches, ...

This is one of the first things to do when trying to diagnose weak signals.
