No sound from woofers in RS 2.5

I picked up a pair of RS 2.5 speakers. They are in pretty good shape but there isn't any sound coming from the woofers. All other drivers work. I pulled the woofers and both play when connected directly to the amp. There isn't anything obvious like broken solder or loose wires.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

In the back of the speakers there are 4 posts one set for the mid / hi and the other for the woofers. Do you have the jumpers installed if you are using one amp only?

It is strange that you get nothing since there are two voices coils. When you tested the did you test both of the voice coils?
the only thing that would take out both voice coils is no negative that is the only common between the two
 
Yes, both voice coils tested the same. Could it be a bad capacitor? The black wire is attached to the cap on the right, and the red wire to the cap above it.

Can you check where the wires from the two big inductors go to the schematic calls for one of these two be a center tapped type so it should have three wires coming out of it.

Put you ohm meter on the + post and the other lead on the 20mh inductor wire should have low ohms or 0 ohms if you are not reading thru the inductor.
Same thing with the 25 mh center tap inductor.

This will verify the + connections and the inductors are ok.

The negative post ties directly two the negative leads on the voice coils

You should ohm this out too
 
The circuit for voice coil two consists of 1 20 mh inductor and 1 700uf capacitor. The chances of this capacitor going bad are pretty slim.
The circuit for voice coil one consists of 1 2.5 mh center tapped inductor this will either have a 2.5 reading or 5 depending on switch position a 125 uf capacitor and 1 or two capacitors depending on the switch position it will be a value of 1100uf or 1800uf if the switch puts the second cap in

The chances that all these caps are bad are slim to none and slim left town.

I know that the RS 4.5 Xovers went thru many versions and one of them was to change to a center tapped inductor it looks to me the rs 2.5 did the same so yours is like mine an early version.
 
Both woofers (left and right speaker) are not working while they are in the cabinets??

If this is correct, I would assume someone has dorked-around with the crossover. I know that bundle of three caps tied together in the center of the picture is not Infinity-original.
 
You're correct. Both woofers don't work while in the cabinets. I see what you're saying about those three caps. The other speaker doesn't have those. Here is the other crossover.

Now you got me wondering about the crossovers, so I found some on ebay and mine are different. I did find a pair on Worth point that looked the same and a pair of crossovers on ebay that had the three caps together like mine.

I don't know enough about these to know if there were different versions.

This thread may help you find your way around a bit. It's got a good pic of the crossover with everything labeled. Interesting that you xover seems to be missing 1.5mH coil seen in the middle. My set has these but Infinity was known for tweaking their designs.

After looking at the picture again, those three caps tied together might be original after all LOL.

What brand are the three caps that are wired together and what are their values?
I would ohm out the wires from the posts to the woofers I still am leaning towards a missing negative only thing in common with both.
What is the measurement across the posts?
Also ohm out the positive to the inductors as I previously posted.
 
Here's a picture of the caps in question. The three together are 25 MFD. The single is 75. I don't have the skillset to do the testing that was asked. I'm sorry.

I'm not great at following schematics but it looked to me that the negative lead is the only thing common (no pun intended) between the 2 voice coils of the woofer.

@retreatwi - what goat67 is telling you to do is pretty simple and you absolutely CAN do this. When he says to "ohm out the wires from the posts to the woofers" he is telling you to check that a signal can flow from one end of the negative path to the other end. This is known as continuity. If you want to learn about it, there are MANY guides and videos to show you how to do it and even the most basic, inexpensive $10 multimeter can do this test. If you are worried you may get hurt, don't be - there is no voltage or anything that can harm you in a speaker. Also, this is a passive test so even if you do it wrong, you're not going to hurt anything in the speaker either.

If you want to give it a shot, read/watch until you are comfortable with the concept of continuity. It's a simple process of hooking up 2 probes then and observing the result.
 
I can provide stock crossover pictures if you need anything, mine are sitting right here on the sideline.
 
Attached is a photo of the crossover in one of my 2.5's if that will help. I replaced the two axial lead caps.
