Noise problem with Yamaha CR-1000 Receiver

You can remove the mic board very easily from the unit, no soldering required. The ultimate by-pass. That's what I did with mine.
 
Ha! Nothing like discovering an answer to a current issue by looking back 20 years into the AK archives. Funny how prevalent the mic gain control gremlin apparently is/was. I just recently retrieved my CR1000 from the audio catacombs (the place where my purchases from the early days of EBay went to rest) and fired it up. I was horrified by the screech that it emitted. It took awhile to narrow down what was causing such a commotion. I wish I had checked here first. What an inexplicably strange feature that mic gain control is.
