Noisy Denon 300F

I purchased a Denon 300F over the weekend. 2nd hand, but very clean and I did get to hear it playing. Got it home and hooked it up to a Pioneer SA 8100. When the amp is powered up and the tt is NOT spinning, I'm getting a high speed clicking noise through the speakers.

I disconnected the tt and the noise is not present. There is no ground wire on this tt, but it sure sounds like it is generating the noise. Any thoughts would be most appreciated!

Lack of a ground shouldn't cause a clicking sound IMO. Have you checked that the auto functions are working properly? I can't recall for sure, but would swear that mine had a ground lead when I had it? Are you using the internal preamp or the phono stage in your SA-8100?

Jim, the previous owner was running his with the internal pre amp off, and I am doing the same, using the 8100. The auto function works fine as far as I can see, both at the start and finish. The noise is inaudible during record play, but is very apparent when it stops. I have nothing else hooked up to the amp and the noise was not present when using my other tt (Dual 1219).

Thanks for your help!

Out of curiosity, have you tried moving the cable to the AUX or Tape inputs and then switch to the internal preamp on the Denon to see if the noise is still there?

Ok, so I tried another amp....completely quiet. It appears the 8100 is in need of some TLC. Thanks for the help everyone!
