I don't recall how I stumbled on this blog. It's about Life, Culture, Philosophy — wide ranging. It has a long section on Audio as a metaphor for a decline in general standards, contrasting the '70-'80s with today in terms of design, engineering, advertising, and enthusiasm.
The writing is insightful, provocative, instructive, entertaining — with some mouth-watering photos, of The Vintage Knob variety. I guess its two main points are a) truly fine quality used to be mass-market but now is just a hyper-expensive niche, and b) people used to care, passionately, both about the products they designed, and the products they bought.
I thoroughly enjoyed it (though it made me sad), learned a lot, and it brought a perceptive perspective to "progress" in our allegedly tech-driven world. Seems Moore's Law is inverted when it comes to playing music in our homes.
It starts about 2/3's down the page, so just scroll till you hit it.
I think it's worth your time — and I think it touches some of Audio Karma's core values.
