Non-McIntosh Gear with McIntosh Integrated Amps

Do McIntosh integrated amps (current models) mate well with non-McIntosh gear like analog sources, digital sources and speakers?

What non-McIntosh sources & speakers are you using with your McIntosh integrated amp?

Absolutely! Without question!

My MA5100 is connected to a Thorens TD 125 MKII TT, a Pioneer RT707 tape deck, a Jolida 402 Tube Tuner and Klipsch KG4 speakers. The sound is crazy good!

My MA5100 was connected to a Marantz network audio player, a couple of custom AR XAs (not at the same time), and a pair of Focal 806V speakers.

I had my MA6200 connected to different turntables, NAD CD Player, Technics CD Player, and JBL L46, JBL L26, Tannoy Stratfords, Camber 2.5, etc. They all sounded good. My Tannoy DC3000s weren't at their best with the MA6200. They need a higher Damping Factor.

Any Mac MA unit will mate well with any outstanding turntable cartridge combination. Way back when I found Ortofons to work the best. But today I can imagine Dyna vectors working just as well. Though I have mostly used Mac tuners, I owned a few Scotts and Fishers that worked equally Well. We had a customer that used a 10 b with a MA6200 and he was very happy. Macs older MA's were a little under powered for inefficient speakers like AR KLH and ML series Mac speakers in large rooms but worked well in smaller spaces. Bozak speakers were very popular with integrated owners, while the reverse wasn't always true. Quite a few preferred the sound of tube amps and preamps. Tape decks and cassette machines all worked well with Mac MA's. Digitally I have no clue . I mean CD and DVD players work well, but as with phono cartridges each model has a particular sound and that your choice and is not the fault of the MA. As to the latest units with their own built in Digital processors, the sound is going to improve as each new generation appears, I have only heard the MA 8000 once briefly, but i was favorably impressed. How the MA's match up with speakers is something you are king to have to work your way through. It won't sound like a MC302 and a C2500, but is very close to a C-48 and MC302. Is it as good as C500 and a pair of MC501 at the same power. At the same power with newer output devices you should be surprised how well the unit stands its ground, against superior odds. Having those graphic tone controls and the ability to match cartridges make the MA8000 and is mates with lower power real winners.

I have a JVC VHS VCR, Sony TV set, and Grace Internet Radio unit hooked to my McIntosh integrated amp and they sound just fine. Of course, I also have the MVP-891, TM-1 tuner module, and MT-5 turntable hooked to the same integrated amp.

I'm getting listening quality that is better than anything I've ever heard before (I have had a McIntosh setup for about 1.5 years now, prior to that, I had a Yamaha high-end multi-channel receiver).

I am really thrilled with the MX-119/7106 combo. It's made quite a difference in my home listening (mostly classical and 50/60's rock music on LP and CD/DVD-A/SACD), even without the HDMI capability from the MVP-891 (the MX-119 pre-dated HDMI).

Theres no reason it wouldn't work well with other brands. Some units gel better with others, but that happens with every brand.
My upstairs system has the MC252 amp paired with an Audio Research pre-amp, Linn cdp, VPI turntable ect...sounds great!
Downstairs system has my C2200 pre mated with a Kyocera amp, sony cdp, pioneer turntable. Again.. sounds great!
I'm glad, because I don't think I could afford a whole McIntosh system! I think that would be boring anyway. It would take the fun out of system matching with other brands.
