non standard refoam?

Hi,

I have a pair of realistic t-120's which need a woofer and mid re-foam. I went through a few guides and it seems pretty straight forward except for the first gluing step. the surrounds are first glued to the cone by brushing glue on the underside of the surround and them placing on top of the cone.

But, both woof and mid drivers have the original surrounds glued on the underside of the cone.

What should I do? Should I try to glue the surround on the underside of the cone or do I ignore how its supposed to be and just glue over?

Thanks,
Alex

Try and remove as much of the old foam , I use lacquer thinner in a pinch and a Q tip .
Placing the surround on the back of cone is way easier then you think .
Get ya a bag of clothes pins for the outer edges .

Good luck !

Will lacquer thinner be safe on the paper cones? Would methyl hydrate be considered lacquer thinner?

I managed to scrape pretty much all of it without much trouble just some residue left.

Thanks for the replies.

btw. is there a sonic difference between under or over cone gluing?

Thanks,
Alex

Don't know about the methyl hydrate never used any , denatured alcohol might do the trick also. If it's just a little left should be OK once the glue in on .
About the sound I be guessing if one could tell any difference between on top or under cone's edge. I always do them like they came from the factory .

I use contact cement but others like the tacky glue .
