I just picked up a nice looking pair of Noresco NE 581 speakers yesterday from a garage sale.
They are a big speaker! The fronts do not appear to come off.
I was curious if anyone here has had any experience with these speakers.
Does anyone know what type of drivers and tweeters came originally in them?
There is next to zero info online about these speakers.

As usual - could you please post pictures? Regarding the grill, if it went on, it will come off. By some careful investigation and gentle probing you will find exactly how it was done and the grills will come off. Look for hidden screws, tacks, removable back, etc..

I found a few other Noresco models during a search, and they look to be quite interesting. Another speaker line to explore.

Well, those are some simply lovely cabinets, aren't they? Very nice. As is the grill.

From the pics we can see it's a two-way design. And at 22.25" wide, the woofer imprint would indicate a 10 or 12" driver. It's impossible to make out the hi frequency unit. Rectangular shape could indicate a horn or maybe a horizontal tweeter array. Or, that could simply be the cut out in the speaker grill frame.

Simply too many unknowns here. Ultimately, you will need to find a way inside in order to know exactly what you have. I'm wondering if the grill trim snaps in place and retains the grill? There's a way in somehow, but you will need to be very careful when finding it. That grill trim is going to be unobtainium.

Most important of all, though - how do they sound? Do you like them?

Noresco speakers were predominantly or in great part Isophon. The word rectangle makes me say if the woofer is 12", it's almost certainly the Isophon G3037.

The Noresco grills don't come off, the back's do. If it is same enclosure I bought on impulse at an auction for $10 because no one else was bidding, have a giggle and remove the cover of the woofer's magnet.

Hate to say, and this only just my opinion, but that was the absolute worst sounding speaker that ever crossed my door. Took me a year to get rid of and it was a Korean father & son who came to see them. The son told me his dad had Isophon speakers before leaving the country and indicated they are/were held in somewhat high regard there. I was just happy getting them out of my place.

I only have them setup in the garage currently. Not a very acoustically friendly environment. However I didn't think they sounded too bad. Definitely not up to par with my Avid 103's though.
I'll need to take the back cover off to see just what lurks inside though.
I'll post pictures once I do.
 
So, I had an interesting thing happen with these speakers. I decided I would list them for sale locally, and immediately received a message from a guy who wanted me to hold them for him. I said I would, and then posted in the subject line in the ad they were on hold for (guy’s name).


A little while later I was checking kijiji and noticed another ad was placed referencing my ad. The person had recognized the speakers from my post on Audiokarma (http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/noresco-ne-581.773753/), where I had started a thread after I found them and was asking for feedback about them. One of the comments from the Audiokarma post was unfavorable about the speakers sound.


So this person who posted the second ad on kijiji was warning the prospective buyer that I was trying to sell crap to him. The ad referenced the comment from the Audiokarma post where someone had said they thought the speakers they owned were the worst he had ever heard.


I could not believe that someone would go to these lengths to try and sabotage another persons sale. So when the guy who want interested in the speakers showed up, I immediately told him about the second kijiji ad this troll had posted. He read the ad, and still wanted to look at the speakers.


Long story short, the guy did buy the speakers and is happy with them! As it turns out he was mainly interested in the cabinets more that the guts. Alls well that ends well I guess.


Has anyone else here experienced trouble from online trollers?
 
That's a dirty, nasty tactic to employ, and to what end? Did the interloper see himself as the Lone Ranger barging through the door just in the nick of time to save Poor Buyer from the clutches of Evil Seller? I just don't get the busybody's compulsion to intervene here. He had to have assumed that the prospective buyer was too stupid to make his own judgement on the speaker's sonic offerings. What an odd adventure.

Unless he wanted to buy them himself for a much lower price after scaring everyone else away. But more likely he's just nuts.

The guy who bought them from me was kind enough to share these with me.
I had not opened them up prior to selling them.
