Norman Lab Model 8

Hey all,

I am new to this forum.

I have an old pair of Norman Lab Model 8's that were part of a quad system my father in law had when I started dating my future wife. I didn't think much of them, not in sound or anything, but just thought they were average speakers, although I don't know why I thought this since my FIL always bought what he thought was the best of everything.
Anyway, i saved a pair of them and they have been behind my sofa with a lamp on them for 25-30 years. I didn't even know what brand they were.
I looked at them and they are serialized 404041 and 404042.

What can you tell me about these speakers? Are they any good? I'm not sure of the woofer condition since they're are buried behind the sofa.

I have a pair of 9s that really like. They sound really good to my ears and are keepers. The model 8 is a smaller bookshelf? If it is one of the first in production it probably has rubber surrounds and good to go. If an older iteration you may have to replace the surrounds but in my mind worth doing. Might as well recap and replace the crappy binding posts while you're in there.

I've got a pair of 8's that were given to me and think they are great!

They were given to me recently by the same friend that had asked me to go listen to them before he bought them new in about the early to mid 80's. We auditioned 3 or 4 other pairs of 10" 2 way systems at Audio Electronics (Overland Park, KS) that day before he settled on the 8's

Sometime in the 90's the foam surrounds on the woofers shelled out so, be aware that may, or may already have happened.
