NOS? ecc88 6299 6DJ8

Does anyone here know these tubes well?
I'm trying to find some good quality NOS replacements for my Bottlehead Seduction 6DJ8 and came across these Brimar ECC88 on eBay, but they look suspicious to me because they are only $39 for the pair (with a seemingly endless supply) and IMO NOS versions should be way more $$.
Plus the boxes dont look "right" to me...
They are labled "Made in England" but could these be new production Russian, Czech, or Chinese?

Looks legit to me-

The boxes look weathered, the print on the tubes is not perfect because wears off easily, the top of the tube has no seams, and they just look very similar to the Brimar ECC82s I used to have...

they're not really well appreciated by the golden ears but can sound good.

from my understanding this general should lean you towards 70's/80's vs old NOS 50's/60's

the real way to verify is to read the codes which are either etched, stamped on the support or between the pins.

One critical thing to pay extra for is a guarantee of use in low noise circuits. Even NOS can fail this test miserably. Both used and new need sorted for that kind of service.

They look like the real thing (70s or 80s, but real NOS).

You may wish to consider a 7DJ8. They are almost always quiet, and usually work in circuit just fine. They are the same as a 6DJ8, except a 7 volt filament.

PS: I think I bought from this dealer, and he is legit.

you might wanna consider used orange globe amperex'. they sound really good and not too expensive. you can buy new testing pair for around $50. i'm sure they're way better sounding than the brimar's - though i'd never heard 'em.

Not necessarily. They were making tubes in the UK in the early 70, but not after. A lot of tubes of that vintage were made in East Germany, or Hungary.

The Hungarian tubes are actually quite good. I obtained 7DJ8 tubes that say "Made in England", but I know they are Tungstram (which are quite good). I also have a set of 6DJ8 Amperex orange logo from Hungary, and they are very nice.

So, while they may or may not be from the UK, my bet is they are better than the current stuff out there.

part of the enjoyment with tubes is rolling in different ones to experience the changes and decide what works best to you in your application.

fwiw i did read on audioasylum that the brimar ecc88 was a late tesla made product.

Might as well order some Electro Harmonix 6922 or JJ E88CC from Jim McShane. The Electro Harmonix is very quiet and the JJ's are voiced closely to European tubes. McShane will test them to make sure they are not noisy before they go out. You might also consider pre-1975 JAN Sylvania 6922 or 7308.
