NOS Sony CDP-101....

that looks much better than my one .. i only have the machine .. still looking for a remote control . plus it was acting up last time i tried using it .

I had one back when they came out. It was cool, but didn't sound all that great. The laser died after two years and I replaced it with a Yamaha built Emerson CDP-150A that wiped the floor with it performance wise.

Should be the CX20017, a dual 16-bit DAC. It was Philips that launched with the dual TDA1540 14-bit DAC plus creative filter solution... which sounds a heckuva lot better than the Sony, at that point anyway.

seem to remember some odd stuff went on with Philips and Sony at the time .
i know Philips is is probably the best transport as they invented c d .

The Philips early models were far superior in sonics and reliability. And Philips had the superior CDM-0 and CDM-1 swing arm transports, the best CD mechanisms ever made. The TDA 1541 DAC chips are still highly thought of to this day and Philips had the first oversampling. And virtually all the high end and esoteric CD players used Philips based transports

I've got a working Sony CDP-101,would have to agree it's a cool looking collectable machine, build quality is excellent, quite heavy as well for it's midi size.
But sadly the sound caused me listening fatigue after a little while.

I'm sure it's a collectors item, since it was the very first CD player with all the accessories. I liked the vertical loading players. That way you can see the disk spinning. My first player was a Sanyo DAD 8. The motor went out on it in 2007. Could not play any CD-R's that I recorded and had trouble playing CD's over 74 min. long.

Speaking of early vertical players...
