Not enough inputs for phono?????

So instead of using phono inputs for my 2 tts I use phono preamps hooked to tapes 1 and 2.

Getting another (with a phono preamp)but my aux is already in use as I have my reel to reel,cassette,and 8 track players via a 4 in one box which works well.So I'm out of inputs.

Can I hook my 3rd preamp in the 4th input of the box or is that going to cause problems.Its not a fancy input box.

So you want to run a turntable with a built-in preamp through a line level input of a switching box? I don't see how that would be different than running it directly into a preamp or line level input of a receiver.

Is the built-in preamp any good? My daughter has a turntable with one and I thought it didn't sound great.

i've got one as well that doesn't sound that great but not horrible but he doesn't say they have built in preamps, they could be external....i have several of those as well(unused)

i'd personally buy a unit with enough inputs so i didn't have to have all that potential interference from a mismash of cables and power supplies but he didn't ask that.

nothing will blow up but i can't say that any of it will sound good.
 
What about just adding an input selector box to one of the tape loops?
I have a three input one output selector box I've used with a couple preamps that don't have enough line level inputs like aux, tape in, etc.
They don't cost that much. Using a three input selector would give you the two inputs for the phono preamps and one extra. There are some with four inputs I've seen as well. Some have a yellow video input jack as well. Mine does, I just ignore it. For some reason it was cheaper than those without the RCA video input jack.

the way i read his post is that he has a 4 input box connected to aux and already is using 3 of those inputs. he wants to connect another preamp to the 4th input.

I have another smaller two input selector I added to that three input selector once. My main preamp.had failed. While I was repairing that preamp I used one I built,.but it only had three inputs. Between the input selector on on the preamp and the two I had daisy changed, I had to make a note so I would rem2mbernwhat was plugged into what.
 
You can use any integrated amplifier, as a slave, even an old receiver that has AUX, CD, TUNER and TAPE in/outs to route signals to and from your main pre-amp.
Best part...signal selection from the "slave" is all passive.

Uhm - any reason, why you don't just try it? I mean, if I understand you correctly, you already have two external phono stages - so it shouldn't be difficult to try either of these at the remaining input of your switch box.

My fanciest phono preamp (Fosgate Signature) did not like being put on an input switch, even a quality (Rek-o-Kut) one. To be more precise, it did not like being switched. It would shut down, iirc.

Just one data point. No harm in trying, even though it scared the crap out of me.
